Kathy McCarrell Honored for Career Achievements in Strategic Transitional Leadership
Kathy McCarrell of Irvine, California has been named “Interim of the Year” for 2021 by Third Sector Company in honor of her exemplary career as an Interim Executive Director, most recently of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation (LBPLF) in Long Beach, California.
McCarrell is the seventeenth recipient of the company’s highest national honor that recognizes professionals for providing exemplary transitional leadership to community impact organizations, associations and congregations.
McCarrell stepped into the leadership role at LBPLF at a pivotal point, poised for exponential growth to meet the needs of a community that is in greater need than ever.
“Kathy’s extensive experience leading nonprofit organizations made her the perfect fit for the interim executive director role,” M. Lissette Flores, foundation board president, said in a release. “She helped us prepare for a strong future.”
Kathy brings over 25 years of experience leading key nonprofits in Southern California, having most recently steered the Newport Beach Public Library Foundation through their management transition. Kathy also served as the Interim Executive Director of the Long Beach Day Nursery. She is currently leading as Interim Executive Director at WomenShelter of Long Beach.
“It is thrilling and humbling for my work to be noticed by people whom I respect and admire,” says McCarrell. “I truly enjoy getting to know the board and staff members who are committed to the various missions served by non-profits. Each one is very different and I learn from each one. This is definitely an honor that I cherish.”
Prior to her interim career, Kathy served as President and CEO of the Harbor-UCLA Child Crisis Center and Executive Director of Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center, both in Southern California. She was recognized by the Orange County Business Journal as one of the “Top 5 Female Business Executives in Orange County”. Kathy earned a B.A. in Social Work from Chapman University and an M.S.W. from the University of Houston.
McCarrell was presented an engraved award and honored in front of her peers and board president of LBLF at a Third Sector Company online event.
